In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has launched a big coral reef conservation program, allocating as much as R$60 million (about $12 million) to protect its coastal reefs.
The Brazilian Improvement Financial institution (BNDES) spearheads this initiative, selling sustainable improvement and financial progress via marine conservation.
The funding helps shallow coral reefs and two main coral banks, essential for biodiversity and tourism, but threatened by warming seas.
